All applicants must be either a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Resident.

Interstate Commercial Driver's License:

I understand that failure to meet any of the following requirements will prevent the Department of Transportation Certification and that any driver who does not possess D.O.T. Certification is not permitted to drive interstate commerce.

Student must:

  1. Be 21 years of age before residency completion.
  2. Read and speak the English language well enough to converse with the general public, to understand traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  3. Have no currently suspended driver's license in any state. Nor any unpaid traffic tickets in any state.
  4. not have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, driving while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs; possesion, transportation, or unlawful use of alcohol or illegal drugs; leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in serious injury or death; or any felony offense involving the use of a motor vehicle within the last year for a first conviction, or the last three years for a second conviction.
  5. Have no loss of hand, foot or arm, unless a waiver has been granted pursuant to FMCSR 391.49.
  6. Have no impairment in arms, foot or leg, which interferes with prehension or power grasping.
  7. Have no impairment in arms, foot or leg, which interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a motor vehicle.
  8. Hace no current history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes requiring insulin.
  9. Have no current clinical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease of a variety known to be accompanied by syncope, dyspnea, collapse or congestive cardiac failure.
  10. Have no curreny history or clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure, or must be controlled by medication.
  11. Have no respiratory impairment likely to interfere with his/her ability to control and drive a commercial motor vehicle safely.
  12. Have no clinical diagnosis of epilepsy.
  13. Have acceptable eye and hearing acuity. Vision must be correctable to 20/40 for both eyes.
  14. Have no clinical diagnosis of nervous, mental, or psychiatric disorder.
  15. Not use any narcotic or habit forming drugs of any type.
  16. Have no clinical diagnosis of alcoholism.
  17. Have no rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease which interferes with the ability to control and operate a motor vehicle safely.
  18. Have no more than two moving violations in the last year or four in the past five years.
  19. Had no more than one valid driver's license.
  20. Be able to pass a D.O.T. physical examination, urinalysis drug screen, and Breath Alcohol Test.

Intrastate Commercial Driver's License:

The driver must reside in the state of Texas and the driver must be at least 18 years of age.

Intrastate drivers must meet all of the fitness requirements listed for Interstate drivers, unless exempted. Intrastate drivers who do not meet the vision/hearing requirements of 49 CFR, Part 391 may be able to qualify for a vision/hearing waiver. A driver must have 20/40 or better distant binocular acuity with or without corrective lenses in order to qualify for the waiver.
